Foundation Supports Award-winning Program

When Library staff asked the Vancouver Public Library Foundation to assist in fundraising for the unique and innovative First Nations Storyteller-in-Residence program, the Foundation believed it was a winner.

And we were right!

The Library’s First Nations Storyteller-in-Residence program was awarded the British Columbia Library Association’s prestigious Merit Award for Programs and Services at the recent BCLA annual conference. We would like to congratulate storytellers Amanda Nahanee, Jackie Timothy and Henry Charles as well as Library staff involved in the program, and we thank our funding partner, the Vancouver Foundation.

The program is the first of its kind in a BC public library and the second in Canada after the Regina Public Library.

Terry Salman Branch Opening

Vancouver Public Library Foundation is proud to be part of the opening of the new Terry Salman Branch!

VPL’s newest branch opened its doors to the Riley Park community on Thursday, October 13th! VPL Foundation is proud that this new Library Branch is named after our dedicated VPL Foundation Board Chair, Terry Salman, in recognition of his decade of philanthropy and volunteer service to the Library.

Foundation Board Chair Honoured For Commitment, Dedication & Philanthropy

(Vancouver, British Columbia) – In recognition of 10 years of service, dedication and philanthropy, VPL Foundation Board Chair Terry Salman is being honoured by the Vancouver Public Library, the Foundation announced today.

The Library’s newest branch, located in Hillcrest centre (home of the Vancouver Olympic & Paralympic Centre during the 2010 Winter Games), will be named the Terry Salman Branch, announced Foundation Executive Director Brenda van Engelen. Continue reading

Terry Salman’s Story

Terry Salman has chaired the VPL Foundation Board for ten years, bringing to the job insightful leadership skills, enthusiasm and financial acumen. Mr. Salman has just made a major donation to the Foundation and a commitment to encourage others to donate to the endowment that will be established with this gift.. In honour of his dedication and commitment, and past and current financial gifts, the Vancouver Public Library Board will name the newest Library branch, the Terry Salman Branch. The Branch will be located in Hillcrest centre, which was home to the Vancouver Olympic & Paralympic Centre during the 2010 Winter Games, and is expected to open this Fall.
